HarperDB

Brief from client

HarperDB is a database company. We are prelaunch and looking to nail down branding. Trying to tackle the enterprise software market.

Trying to get feedback on the logo as its for a new company. Had mixed feedback internally so trying to get some external feedback on the design from professionals.

If you're going to create a dog illustration based off of a photograph, avoid live-tracing. It looks like his fur is made of camouflage. Just work on simplifying the dog. You don't need to have every shadow and highlight to make it believable.

Plus, your text-to-symbol is too great of a contrast. I would make that dog 70-50% smaller. I'm also not sure you need a border, either.

This is too rough of an idea to really judge it as a whole, so you've definitely got some work to do. To be honest, I'm not sure what a dog has to do with databases anyway, unless he's supposed to be the mascot of the company somehow. It would certainly be worth exploring other options.

Good luck.

Yes, live tracing a photograph is really not recommended for a logo. Not only does it make your logo look rushed, poorly thought though and quite frankly, lazy, the file itself will be a nightmare to handle. You'll just find yourself with hundreds if not thousands of anchor points which will make the file super heavy.

Spend more time getting inspiration from other dog related logos (Pinterest is ace) and even more time sketching, away from your computer.
